Logistics and Supply Chain Management Masterclass Delivering Business Value through Logistics and Supply Chain Management Logistics and supply chain management has grown to become an important subject of management that has been observed to absorb as much as 60 to 80 percent of a firm's sales revenue and is essential to a firm's competitive strategy and revenue generation. The mission of logistics and supply chain is to make products and services available to customers at the time, place, and in the condition and form desired, in the most profitable or cost effective way. In other words, it is about driving out unnecessary costs and reducing risks and uncertainties along the entire flow of materials, services, and information from raw material suppliers to factories, and finished goods and services from the factories to warehouses and distribution points, to the end customers. In the last few years, we have seen an increase in the levels of risk and volatility faced by enterprises. Some recent examples include the unrest in the Middle East, inflation in China, the Japanese tsunami disruption, the Thailand floods, oil price volatility, product recalls and huge fluctuations in financial markets. Beyond all that, are the direct effect from the recent currency drop in Malaysia. This requires business executives to systematically address business risks, both the known-unknown operational risks, as well as the unknown-unknown extreme risks. Unfortunately, there is very little that can be done after a disaster has occurred. Companies therefore need to devote more attention to planning their operations so they can better respond to mega disasters as well as more mundane operational problems. This programme is designed to provide participants with an understanding of the logistics/supply chain activities that are vital to the success of companies and organizations in today's global business environment. Logistics/supply chain management represents many concepts, principles, and methods from the more traditional areas of marketing, production, accounting, purchasing and transportation.
